驻扎在四川广元的九连长梁三喜（吕晓禾 饰）为了从军政治部调来的指导员赵蒙生（唐国强 饰）推迟了探亲假，可出身高干家庭吃不了苦的蒙生打算只干几个月就走。1979年，赵母吴爽（刘燕生 饰）得知蒙生部队将要赴越作战，加紧督办调动之事。耿直的炮排长靳开来（何伟 饰）听说后火冒三丈，扬言要自费上北京告状。部队开赴云南边境，吴爽孤注一掷请求军长雷震（童超 饰）将蒙生调回后方……

Michelle (Roberts) and Allen (Bracey) are in a relationship. They decide to invite their parents to finally meet about marriage. Turns out, the parents already know one another well, which leads to some differing opinions about marriage.

This film is about haunting memories of Asia's late 20th-century modernization. The story departs from a 1965 United States embargo on the hair trade, known as the "Communist Hair Ban". Yet, in every wig resides a ghost from the imperial past.Wigs were vital for the rise of the Asian economy in the post-war era. In the heyday of the 1960s, it was the number four export in Hong Kong's export-orientated industrialization. Between Mao's China - the largest source of hair supplies, and the insatiable Western market, Hong Kong functioned as the gateway. In 1965, U.S. Treasury Department imposed an embargo on "Asiatic hair", to cut off foreign currency to Communist China in the hair trade. The highly racialized category of "Asiatic hair" was later revised as "communist hair", to enable the wig industry to develop in U.S. allies including mainly South Korea and Japan, which led to a significant reconfiguration of light industry in East Asia. 最早公映的关于艾滋病的电影之一，也是Bill Shcrwood执导的唯一部作品，他在1990年时就死于艾滋病并发症。讲述一个患有艾滋病的同性恋者的故事。同年代的电影相比，《离别秋波》没有《同窗之爱》的学院派头，没有《费城故事》的据理力争，它只有一个哀而不伤，感人却不矫揉造作的剧本，一班有血有肉，真情至性的平凡人。二十四小时的一天，迈克要为同居六年的伴侣罗伯特举行派对，表面是欢送他前往非洲就任，实则是为两人的关系画上句号。另一边，迈克的前男友尼克患上艾滋，将不久于人世。迈克对他仍念念不忘……这并不是一部我们想象的悲剧电影，因为不是从旁观者的角度来阐述，而是当事人的真情实感，因此带给人们的是理解和感动，结局倍感宽慰。冥冥中，导演似叙述自己的人生感悟，拍罢此片四年后便辞世，享年三十八岁，死于艾滋。值得一提的是演员斯蒂夫·巴斯米，是好莱坞演戏最多的黄金配角，他总共参演了百余部电影，许多还是主角，成为昆丁等前卫导演们的最爱。因为长得不帅，塑造了许多“丑怪”角色，例如《空中监狱》的变态杀人犯。巴塞米拥有着一张特殊的脸，在中年以后反而令他大红大紫，许多导演都很钟爱拍摄他脸部的特写，仿佛只要对着镜头，他的脸部就有一种分裂的英俊感，深蓝色的眼睛显得有点腼腆和寂寞。《临别秋波》可以说是他第一次挑大梁拍片，演技自然纯熟，尚未表现出他后来的那种个性的边缘分裂特色，但他的表演已经深受肯定，那种忧郁孤独的气质和清奇的长相，微妙内敛的表情变化，好似有千言万语尽在不言中，让人拍案称赞。比起片子里的其他几位极其俊美的帅哥，巴斯米的形象反而更能深入人心，抓住眼球。巴斯米正是以自己的个人魅力成就了全片的核心，让观众从他会说话的眼睛中感受此片导演的心灵领地。
