《面包情人》自1998年开始拍摄，以在台北市安养院工作的菲律宾看护为拍摄对象，一方面探索女性外籍劳工离乡来台工作，面对生存、贫穷、梦想、亲情、乡愁与欲望等多重难题的心路历程，另一方面也试图揭示台湾社会所忽略的老人安养议题。该片的所有动画与国际版海报，皆出自视觉传达系学生之手。影片历时13年，耗资千万进行跨国拍摄，不仅获选为“2011台湾国际女性影展”开幕影片，更入围第十六届釜山国际电影节最佳纪录片奖。

故事发生在位于澳门的一条小街之上，在这里，居住着一位带着四个女儿的母亲。大女儿罗曼英（李婷 饰）个性爽朗，总能够给家中带来欢乐的气氛。二女儿罗兰心（胡燕妮 饰）天真乐观，对未来充满了美好的愿景。三女儿罗倩美（祝菁 饰）到了对爱情产生好奇的年龄，希望有朝一日能够邂逅属于自己的情缘。四女儿罗竹君（冯宝宝 饰）虽然年纪很小但志气很大，脑袋里塞满了古灵精怪的念头。一晃眼多年过去，四个姑娘都出落成为了亭亭玉立的少女。罗曼英终于获得了属于自己的家庭，过着平静但是祥和的日子。罗兰心获得了出国深造的机会，她将这个机会让给了罗倩美，自己则前往香港追梦。

白杨树农业生产合作社社长张登山（蒋锐 饰）因为一些矛盾和第二生产队队长田大虎（蓝谷 饰）产生了激烈的争吵，第二天，张登山中毒病倒。张登山的亲戚张万寿（白穆 饰）一口张登山中毒是田大虎报复所为，而种种的蛛丝马迹都将犯罪的嫌疑指向了田大虎，只有田大虎的未婚妻郭秀娥（束夷 饰）坚定的相信自己的未婚夫不是如此下三滥之人。经过公安人员缜密的调查，竟意外的发现了张万寿的特务身份，从而识破了张万寿企图栽赃陷害田大虎的阴谋。恼羞成怒的张万寿与富农田云卿（高笑鸥 饰）联手，决定拼一个鱼死网破，在张万寿实行他的破坏行动之际，郭秀娥发现了张万寿的计划。
